Few people agree that it's never too cold to fish. I agree. But, there's a point to where it can get too cold for the tackle, specifically the line. At about -5 degree C, water soaked braided lines will literally freeze as it touches the line guided on the rod. I heard from a friend that the same goes for fluorocarbon and mono-filament lines. So, unless the tackle manufacturers come up with a smart idea of a 'freeze free' line and guide system, we might just have to admire the winter scenery should we decide to go fishing.
Take a break guys. We'll do the work this time while you freeze. Also, when it gets well below freezing, fishing the stagnant water is out of the question too. Over here, the ice isn't think enough for ice fishing. You'd be asking for trouble if you walk on thin ice. Unless if you're as light as a duck.
This ice. No ice fishing and it's dangerous to even set foot on.
Chub fishing may still be possible, if only there's a 'freeze free' line guide system. So, what's 'freeze free' going to do for you in such conditions?
Fishing is still possible. The thin ice can be breached with a 2 oz jig.
A fast flowing stretch which manage to stay ice free.
