Erewash Canal (Act. 2)

A small one but this one's a good fighter on light tackle. The fish was caught near the outflow of the canal overflow.

Pitching in sparse cover. The lilies have started to grow. Soon, the canal will be full of lilies.

Later that afternoon, I was fishing near the outflow of the canal overflow. The water at that particular spot wasn’t very deep and vegetation was quite sparse. There were no signs of fish. But, after just a few jiggles, a solid take was felt and I could see a perch at the other end of the line upon setting the hook. Although not a big one, it fought quite well.

Now what was that? A fish?

After a quiet spell, it wasn’t long before I decided to take a walk to the other end of the canal. This time, I was heading for the reeds. For the record, this spot comes highly rated by a work colleague. No doubt, the spot just spells fish all over.

Nice spot... and a fish on the fist cast and a big one too!

Upon dropping the bait on the very first case, I could feel a take and saw the line moving. Upon setting the hook, I realized that this had to be a good one. Even with the drag turned down almost completely, it was kept working for a few seconds. Measuring over 40cm, this was the best fish of the day! In a way, it was mission accomplish.

A decent size perch measuring over 40cm from the reeds.

Pitching at the reeds hoping to catch another one but there were not takers.

Next, I just have to wait till fall to fully experience perch fishing in the Erewash Canal. Until then, I’ll be looking forward to mid-June for some action in the rivers and streams.

A swan keeping me company or is it not?

Until next time, thanks for reading.
