The Necton substitute?

A peacock bass with a Tackle House Necton NFD85 (discontinued). No doubt one of the best diving jerk baits for peacock bass, but are there any alternatives?

Is the search for the discontinued Tackle House Necton NFD85 over? Well, we'll know in a few weeks time. A fellow Team LKG member once told me that the Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow DD (deep diving) R538 (floating) was the next best alternative. Off all my trips to Ayer Kuning, the one lure which I've used the most and caught most of my best peacock bass was undoubtedly the NFD85. As for the Yo-zuri, except the Arms series jerk bait, I have not tried any other models.

Is the search for the Necton NFD85 over substitute? The Yo-zuri Crystal Minnow DD (deep diving) R538 (floating) jerk bait minnow. Shown here are some of the proven colours for peacock bass fishing in Ayer Kuning, Perak (Malaysia). Anticlockwise from top left, lime green (LM), orange (OG), Banana peel (BTCL), Clown (CR), Chartreuse (CL), clown again.

If you take a look closely, both the NFD85 and the R538 spots a very similar shape diving bib. Although more or less the same length, the Yo-zuri has a 'delta shape' body cross-section while the Necton is oblong. Personally, I don't have a clue how the R538 is going to perform. But I do hope that it's got to be very similar to the R538's swimming action. We'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

Stay tuned for more updates. Thanks for reading.
