Chub in the dark

Lure fishing in the dark in snaggy waters is always tricky business. You just never know where your lure may land, that's if your not familiar with the place, let alone know what you're going to catch. I was heading back to the car park after a pike fishing trip down river. I've heard in the past that there were big chubs in this very narrow stream that I was walking past. Problem was, there's loads of snags and to fish there at night is like walking blind folded in the total darkness. As crazy as it went, I send my lure flying low under the branches. The moment it hit the water, the drag was screaming like all hell had gone loose. Well, sure enough, I lost the fist which hit my lure on the very first cast. Subsequent tries later, still there were no takes. The fish must have been spooked and long gone.

The next bast thing to do was to move up stream to another opening. This time, not even sure where the lure was going to go, I gave it another try. It was like motion playback. As soon as the lure hit the water on the first cast, something strong decided to have a quick attack. This time, it's not getting away. Hooking a fish in the dark is one thing, fighting it in snaggy waters in the dark is another, especially if you do it using light lines. A few moments later, I could see a silver glitter. Wow! What a nice chub. It's amazing how these fish can fight so hard on the first run. This one's a small one and it fought like a 4 lb pike.

Is it fishing or playing in the dark and what's that yellow thing?

Not big but they are very good fighters in this narrow snaggy stream. This one's only 2lbs the most.

A close-up of the critter caught in the dark. The fish was caught on a custom order 1/8 oz spinnerbait.
