This is Hamburger Hafen!!!

This is Hanburger Hafen. It's big water perch fishing!!!

Exactly two weeks ago today, I was somewhere in Hamburger Hafen fishing with my friend Dustin Elbangler, and it was a blast!!! Though I may have had a very tough first day, day two started off with a bang for me. I caught my first lunker within two hours grinding at a shallow riprap bank in clear water on a spinnerbait. From then, we just hit the gas and never looked back.

It didn't just end there for me and Dustin as we managed to kept the momentum going for the rest of the day with three more 40up monsters. At one point, we almost did a double header catching two monster perch (a post-spawn female and a male) from deep water barely 5 minutes apart. Amazingly, both the fish were almost of identical size and it was unbelievable.

Soon after, it was Dustin’s turn to do the ‘blades of glory’; he caught his first perch on spinnerbait. And, it wasn't just any ordinary perch but a 40up! Frankly, I just couldn't have imagined any of that happening in summer. Usually, fall is prime-time for big perch but who cares, we dialed-in the pattern and we ruled the water that day.

Special thanks to perch ‘Professor’ Dustin Elbangler for his ingenuity, generosity and warm hospitality. None of these could have happened if it was not for his local knowledge and understanding of the conditions in Hamburger Hafen. It’s my pleasure to get to know him and his friend Dawid who are awesome anglers. I so look forward to fishing with them again. Just remember: “Go big or go home!”
